Economics students are trying their hand at medical startups
Dream, create, present! It was on this principle that the unusual competition at the intersection of medicine and economics was organised. The competition took place on March 11, 2020 at the “YURiA-PHARM” Corporation. Teams of undergraduate students of the Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman (KNEU) were presenting their vision of business projects in the field of medicine and were fighting for the prize places in a fair competition.
The business project competition was founded by the Public Association Technology Transfer Office “Up to Future” and the “YURiA-PHARM” pharmaceutical corporation. The ideological mastermind of the project is Ihor Naida, CEO of the TTO “Up to Future”. The performance of the teams during the competition was evaluated by a jury of experts, chaired by Andrii Horban, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Academician of NAS of Ukraine, Expert on Innovation and Technology Transfer in the TTO “Up to Future”; and Larysa Lihonenko, Doctor of Economics, Professor of KNEU.
The first place in an intense competition was taken by the team that have presented its own business positioning strategy for medical cream Vertebronol from the arsenal of non-traditional medicines (manufacturer – LLC “SAKS” (ТОВ «САКС»)). The team captain Olena MIsiura and her teammates Daryna Vasylyshyna, Hanna Hrach, Andrii Shaparenko study at the 4th year of the Economics and Management Faculty of KNEU on the specialty “Management of business organisations”.
“This is a real celebration for our university because we get an opportunity to implement our educational projects and present them to the expert jury. The students of our economic university have presented their first medical projects applying knowledge and skills in economics, writing business plans, project management, etc. They got a wonderful training delivered by experts and learned how to justify their decisions”, – said Larysa Antoniuk, Professor, Doctor of Economics in her final speech giving thanks to the “YURiA-PHARM” Corporation, TTO “Up to Future” and personally to Ihor Naida for the long standing cooperation that helps KNEU to strengthen the practical component of teaching.
The students expressed their sincere gratitude to the “YURiA-PHARM” Corporation, TTO “Up to Future” and their university for the opportunity to develop themselves, generate new ideas and, most importantly, for the possibility to gain practical experience in developing their own approaches to implementing business projects that is enabled by this partnership.
ON THE WAY TO NEW INNOVATIONS
“Our aim is to find talented people and implement their creative ideas with the help of managers” – said Ihor Naida, who believes that realising the importance of human capital for the whole society must be an axiom.
The business project competition was preceded by a huge preparatory work undertaken by the TTO “Up to Future” together with KNEU in an extremely short time. “We are interested in innovative and modern projects”, – these words were repeated by the students after the competition. This desire reflects one of the main programme principles of the TTO “Up to Future” – to help young people to fulfill themselves in innovative activities.
